The Tartan 46 was introduced in 1972 as a big fiberglass production yacht that would rate well under I.O.R. but also be an excellent cruising boat. The production run ended in 1974 with just 8 boats being built. The boats were heavily built and with 14 of beam provided an enormous living space below.

A ketch (as well as yawl) version was developed with traditional transom. 6 of these were built as well. Heres the sail plan for the ketch.
